Sustainable Agriculture In Uganda
Earth Keepers Centre plans an integrated reforestation, forest conservation and community education campaign in Uganda. The Smart by Nature: Nurseries of Excellence Project (SNNOE) will carry out reforestation and community education. It will encompass children and youth at schools and colleges. The SNNOE Project will spread its cost-effective by establishing several nurseries in the region to serve local communities. It’s one of many strategies that can help us fight climate change, while defending critical ecosystems. Earth Keepers Centre of Kenya will start 100 small, local nurseries and plant 500,000-2,000,000 trees per year as they spread their reforestation model to Uganda. We will spread these nurseries and the plantings to Uganda. (Full detail available upon request.)
Farmers across Uganda are already facing the new challenges posed by climate change.
The degradation of land and water resources as well as other environmental impacts which are negative showing us the limits of highly intensive farming. While dependence on agriculture is such important but there is need to diversify the sources of livelihoods by having several alternative sources of income and creating jobs in case of agricultural hazards created by climate change. We need to build the capacity of rural farmers to organize and market collectively. They need to graduate from using hand tools to higher technology, while training them in financial management and agroforestry.
Uganda’s Environmental Concern project seeks solidarity with international organizations in the struggle to save the planet. The project is a grassroots, humanitarian, NGO founded to promote sustainable development in Uganda through public education and empowerment.
Our program is based on a strong social network, where community groups can learn about sustainable development.
We encourage sustainable income-generating activities to help our communities become self-sufficient, without depleting our natural resources. In order to empower our farmers and to encourage sustainable development, we have started the Sustainable Agriculture Support System for rural farmers in the region. It will include reforestation and agroforestry programs. It will train farmers how to adapt to the building forces of climate change, while not contributing to the problem. The project is starting in Mukono District. Our goal is to expand this program across Uganda for maximum impact. Please contact us for more information.
Our newest addition involves rural communities and schools in Tororo District. Unfortunately, the Eastern region faces increasing deforestation, food insecurity, and limited environmental awareness. Many schools lack trees for shade, nutrition, and environmental education, while vulnerable families struggle to access fruit trees that can improve household nutrition and income.
ARDOC Community Education Centre Project proposes to plant fruit and indigenous trees in rural schools and vulnerable households. The project will involve community sensitization, tree planting with pupils and parents, and follow-up care to ensure tree survival.
This initiative will improve nutrition, environmental conservation, climate resilience, and practical learning for children.
The estimated total budget for this initiative is EUR 5,000, covering seedling procurement, transport, community training, planting activities, and basic monitoring and maintenance.
